Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals come with a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This agreement outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance information, fees, and your obligations for the rental period. If any discrepancies arise between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To rent a vehicle in Motherwell, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may vary based on the vehicle type, with extra charges applicable for drivers under 25. A valid full driving licence appropriate for the vehicle category is required, along with valid identification and proof of your current address. You will also need to provide valid payment information and a security deposit, meeting any other requirements outlined in the Rental Agreement.
3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be completed via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Motherwell office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The total payment, along with a security deposit, is usually required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, which are processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be generated and must be signed. When returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as when it was collected, allowing for standard wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level as received; refueling fees will apply if it is returned with less fuel. Late returns may attract extra charges, so please inform us as soon as possible if you anticipate a delay. You are responsible for any parking tickets, traffic violations, or fees incurred during your rental, along with an associated administration charge.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals from Car Hire in Motherwell include basic third-party insurance. You can find comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts outlined in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to help lower your financial liability, so it’s beneficial to review these thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess amount unless you have opted for additional coverage. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms will be your responsibility, irrespective of insurance provisions.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies are determined by the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows could incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited uses of the rental vehicle:
- Prohibited activities include any illegal use of the vehicle, such as racing, rallying, or off-roading. Transporting hazardous materials is also not allowed. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is prohibited. Additionally, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, exceeding passenger or weight limits, and operating outside the agreed geographical boundaries without permission are strictly forbidden.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Liability Limitations

Our maximum liability for any claim is limited to the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months.
